Four years

Mike heard a piece on NPR earlier this week that asked people to think about how their lives have changed in the last four years. Are they better? Worse? When he posed that question to me, I said, "Well we now have a house and a baby on the way." And then we realized I was listing stuff that has happened in the last several months. He had to point out that four years ago we didn't even KNOW each other. We hadn't even met!

Four years ago, I was at a stifling job and working my way through grad school. Mike was a line cook at a chain restaurant while finishing culinary school. So yeah, I'd say our lives are better now.

In fact...

Last night we had dinner with my best friend and her husband. While talking, we reminisced about how just over four years ago they had just met and started dating. Early in their relationship, they double dated with me and my then-boyfriend. We went to dinner and then saw The Dark Knight, and my boyfriend and I got in a huge fight. Like, embarrassingly huge, while this new happy couple looked on. A few days later we broke up.

And it was pretty awful - let's not remember those times.

Because five months later I met someone else. Someone I'm now married to; someone with whom I just bought a house, and with whom I'm having a baby.

Last weekend, Mike and I went out and watched The Dark Knight Rises. And we didn't fight at all.

My, what a difference four years can make.

It's been a tumultuous four years for sure, but I'd say you guys came out for the better! Here's to another kickass four!
