The big ultrasound

I wish I had more to write about than this pregnancy. My life is chaotic right now, but it consists of basically three things:

1) Work. It's out of control. But I can't write about it, because, well, it's work.

2) The house. So much with the house. Every second I'm not working, I swear I'm unpacking or doing other house-related stuff. As much as I can, I'm chronicling that at Shan & Mike

3) Pregnancy.

I hope you don't mind if it's the only thing I'm writing about lately!

Today we had the big ultrasound. I'm sure it was a little anti-climatic compared to others' experiences since we didn't find out the sex, but it was thrilling none the less. I went into the appointment pretty nervous. Every time I have an appointment I'm afraid I'll get bad news. But it appears all is well. She measured just about every bone and every organ in the baby's body, and reported that everything looked good. She spent a long time looking at the spine, which made me nervous, but eventually said it looked good.

The baby spent the majority of the time curled up around itself. It was bent in half with its feet above its head and its arms wrapped behind its knees. I think it enjoyed watching the Olympics with me so much, it decided to be a gymnast.

We didn't look for genitals, obviously, and she never told us to turn away. Which means she either didn't look anywhere near the nether regions, or she assumed we wouldn't know what we were looking at. But at one point when she was measuring the legs, I swear she was looking up at the rump from underneath, which is often the money shot. But I didn't see any goods. So either there was nothing...protruding, or I just really had no idea what I was looking at. That's the only thing I have to go on though. My own uneducated guess.

When we got done and were talking about it later, I realized that for the entire duration of the ultrasound, even before I thought I saw no protrusions, I was thinking of this baby as a girl. While looking at the pictures later, I tried to think of it as a boy, and it seemed strange. So post-ultrasound, I'm thinking girl, but for no good reason. I know far too many people who were convinced their baby was one gender and it turned out to be the other. We'll find out in twenty more weeks!

Ready for some pics? Fair warning...

Sucking its thumb:

Legs over head:

(That weird appendage over the head is the legs and feet, in case you're confused.)

A beautiful profile:

I sent that one to my mom, and she said, "Her profile looks just like yours did! It's 1980 all over!" First of all, apparently Mom is in the girl camp right now. Second, it's a little Shannon! I love that.

I find it so weird looking at the profile, like you said it seems like I'm back in 1980..but it is also amazing..I can't wait to meet this little person growing in you...mom

I love the kick!

My mom thinks our latest ultrasound looks like our first daughter, in profile, so she thinks we're having another girl as a result.
