Week 26

We've been thinking a lot about names lately. I'm driving myself crazy. You'd think as someone who has collected names for years, someone who has a google doc with hundreds of name ideas, would be able to find something that works. But suddenly none of those names are good enough. I like them, I might even love some of them, but they don't feel like my baby's name. It's a silly thing to get hung up on, I realize. It's just a name, everybody gets one. It's not like I'm making a life-changing decision here. But I seriously lay awake nights running through ideas in my head.

I'm mostly struggling with boys. My naming style works better with girls than with boys. I think girls can more easily grow up with their names than boys can, so it feels more limiting. So while I like some names for a boy, I can't picture them on a man. Also, it turns out I like a lot of names that end in -s, -x and -z, which does not work well with the last name we'll use, which starts with a Z.

If you have any great boy names you want to share, please do! I like names that are a little bit funky, a little obscure, without being so out there that nobody even recognizes them as actual names.

Ready... go!

Oh yeah, here's me at 26 weeks:

WEEK 26: Size of a Head of Lettuce

We decided to eat this baby for dinner tonight, so Mike bought romaine instead of the iceburg lettuce that was pictured. It was kind of huge. In fact, this is what it looked like when I held it at a different angle:

I think the bigger lettuce actually makes my belly look bigger too! The baby has been kicking and moving a lot, but it is definitely pretty chill. My sister says she feels hers almost constantly. It sleeps, but when it's awake it does not stop moving. Mine, on the other hand, just kicks or rolls now and then. In fact, Mike hasn't been able to feel or see it yet. Nobody has but me. When the baby moves, I put Mike's hand on my belly, and it stops. This is a daily dance the three of us do. I've been feeling movement for 9 weeks now, and Mike has yet to experience it.

Overall, things are good. I'm busy and stressed, I need a serious break, but life is good.

(Also, if you're following along you know someone close to me experienced a pregnancy-related tragedy recently. Can you all just, I don't know, direct some of your positive thoughts and energy her way? She's a pretty awesome person and didn't deserve any of this, and I know the world is unfair, but I'm angry about it anyway, even if it does no good.)

Oh my gosh, I've been waiting to hear that you're thinking more about this! YAY!

You know my style is a bit obscure so I'll post my current favorite boy names. (Well, to be honest, I really *like* many more mainstream names, but since I chose an "out there" kind of name for #1, I have to keep my list leaning in that direction.)

Silas
Malachi
Lennox
Reid/Reed
Jarret
Emerick
Lennon
Hendrix
River

I am soooo excited to hear what you're considering, if you ever share. Even if I have to wait until the baby's here and THEN learn the back-up choices, I still can't wait. :D

I have to add that River only made it onto my list after I read about the nickname Rio being used for it. I just CANNOT stop gushing over the cuteness of a little boy called Rio. It makes me swoon. But ultimately it's probably too hippy when paired with Soleil, my oldest.

But naming is a life changing decision!! Just ask my cousins named Forrester and Livian (a girl). If you'd like more examples, I'm sure I can provide them. The dude and I always said we'd name a boy Ayrton (for Ayrton Senna) but the reality is we'd probably end up naming him Joseph Michael (which was my grandfather's name reversed). How does Joey not fit a boy while Joseph or Joe are more adult?

Thanks for the shout-out. I keep intending to stop looking at your blog, but I think I'm a glutton for punishment. Obviously, I wish you all the best....but holy hell, our kids were supposed to grow up together!

That's exactly how I feel about the name thing. There are names I like, but this is a BIG decision. I don't want to saddle my kids with a name because I just liked it enough.

Also, I think I finally felt the babies kick on the outside this weekend. Of course, I was out of town so The Mister was nowhere around. Of course.

Hi Shan! I'm also name obsessed, so I couldn't resist adding my two cents here! I've liked Elliott ever since E.T. :) I've seen it spelled Eliot, and it can be a girl name, too. I'm also a fan of: Bruno, Felix, Jasper, Milo, Mick, Trevor, Sebastian, Shane, Gus, Rex, Rocket, Huck! (is Huckleberry too out there?), Toby, Sawyer, Alfie, Ace, Jonah, Banjo and Elijah. I know you might think some of those are either too "out there," or too boring, but they're just my faves. :) Also - you look great, and so does the nursery! So excited for you all!
