On the hunt for a rad rug

I've been on a rug hunt the last few weeks---one for our entry and one for the kitchen. We live in an apartment, so the walls and carpet are pretty bland. We do what we can with wall hangings and other decorations, but I also wanted something a little interesting on the floor. So off we went to store after store, searching for a rug that didn't make me yawn. Apparently rug designers have no sense of style because we encountered only bland and boring aisles like this everywhere we went:

God those colors make me gag. That muted sagey green, the bland shade of burgundy, the sands and tans. Earth tones everywhere! Not to mention the uninspired designs and patterns. I'm so over the square patterns I see everywhere. And stripes. Ugh. Everything looks the same, and I just can't believe that everyone in the world who wants a rug would have the same taste. We are a varied people, we have diverse preferences. Give us options please!

So I went to the internet and spent hours searching for acceptable floor decor. Do you know how expensive rugs are? Little 2'x3' rectangles are upwards of $50. I found several pattern and color combinations I could stomach, but the price was more than I wanted to pay for something I'd be primarily walking on.

Eventually I went back to Target.  I remembered seeing a round rug that was somewhat interesting, but at that point the $25 price tag seemed unreasonable. But after my tiring search, I had come to realize $25 was a price I was willing to pay for a rug that I wouldn't barf on every time I saw it in my home. Hence, you will now find this upon entering our apartment:

That picture was taken last week when I first brought it home, but yes, even now the tag is still on it. So lazy! Funny how I am so determined to find a cool rug, then I completely defeat the awesome by leaving the tag on for weeks. I'm pure class.

Still haven't found an acceptable rug for the kitchen. Suggestions?

This is my favorite source for rugs: http://www.homedecorators.com/Rugs/

And for lower prices, they have an outlet as well: http://www.homedecoratorsoutlet.com/Rugs/

They have all sorts of categories, including novelty rugs. Lots of fun stuff there.

Great resource, thanks. All you bargain shoppers looking for home decor should check out the outlet store. So much more than just rugs!

I tend to decorate like I'm setting up a model home, but still.. I've had pretty good luck at TJ Maxx.

I like Chia'sso rugs the best, alas I think they are out of our price range though. Still, so fun!!

I'm going to call you Minnie Pearl.

TJ Maxx's sister store Home Goods rocks. Someone beat me to the Home Decorators. Half the things I own are form the outlet store.

It sounds weird, but we found the largest rug selection at Lowe's. Of course we were looking for a gigantic rug...but I think they have smaller ones too.

Cool rug! I like it. I've been trying to find a rug too, but I think need an interior designer. I'm so bad with decorating. I've looked for a shower curtain for weeks and...nothing. So when you're done with your place, you wanna come do mine?? lol

Cute rug!

We got our area rugs at Ikea and Target so I don't think I'm a great resource for cool and interesting rugs. :-) I have always wanted to get the little carpet tiles and make my OWN rug: http://www.flor.com/service/flor/shop/tiles.html

That's really cute! Target has good rugs that aren't boring, that's for sure. And $25 isn't too bad at all.

Adorable! And I second CCKim's suggestions; Ikea is my destination for all things awesome, but for the Ikea-less Target also has cute stuff. (As you now know.)
