What am I doing?

Oops. I signed up for Twitter. This happened due to two unrelated events that occurred in rapid succession.

1. My fellow non-Twitterer, my blog friend at Twists and Turns, who also "just didn't get it," joined Twitter.

2. A friend asked me why I didn't get down with this Twitter thing already, and I said I just wasn't interested, but he was welcome to try to convince me. And he did. He pointed out that I don't have to actually tweet (yuck) very often if I don't want to, but won't it be fun to follow lots of interesting people? Which, yeah. I don't update my facebook status often, but I enjoy reading everyone else's. So I guess Twitter is kind of the same idea. Just more stuff to read.

I said I'd sleep on it, and this morning I got an account. So feel free to follow me. I'm @shandoah. I promise I'll at least give this tweeting thing a try. And if there's anyone super cool you think I should follow, let me know.

Oh look, I just tweeted my first tweet! Sweet.

I tweet for work, but not personally. I always find people I'd want to follow, but can't as it's not related to work. I don't have an iPhone and I'm not on the computer when I get home from work, so it doesn't make tons of sense for me.

A good trick is to follow your friends and then read through all the people they follow. It helps you build up your followers quite quickly. I'd follow Rainn Wilson, because I love The Office, and I've heard John Mayer's tweets are funny, too.

As for Kim's comment, I've run into that problem with searching too. Sometimes it's easier to just type in www.twitter.com/shandoah instead of using the search function.

Have fun!

I was resistant at first but its fun to tweet to no-one and everyone. --or something like that!

its an odd concept you tweet to your "followers" but is anyone really "listening". Hmm interesting.

I digress, its fun, i use it to vent abt work and ofc fun, randomness.

send me a request!

Fantastic!!! I'm following ya. I'm @lindsayrees, in case you couldn't figure that one out on your own. Oh, and to your friend above, you don't need an iPhone to use Twitter -- any phone will do. You can text message your tweets, which I did for over a year before I bought my iPhone.

P.S. (shameless blog promotion) I'm writing a multi-part blog about using Twitter -- why, how, what to tweet about, who to follow, the lingo, who not to follow, etc etc. Check it out. Part one is: http://www.lindsayrees.com/2009/02/twitter-part-1-what-is-it/
