In search of my drink: taste test 2

Well it took over a year, but I finally tried another drink on my Drinks That Could Be My Drink list (see Taste Test 1 here). I pretty much forgot about the list, but mostly it's because I seriously never drink. Rarely. And if I do I go with one of my standby beers.

In the middle of the turmoil that followed the break up, Robin happened to be free one Friday night because her boyfriend was in Ireland. So we went out for a drink. In an attempt to try new things, I dug up the old list and decided to order something from it. After asking if this particular bar made mojitos and getting an unenthusiastic "meh" I went with the Bacardi Raz with Sprite. Only I switched the Bacardi for some sort of vodka that Robin recommended. Robin ordered a Blue Moon.

When our drinks came to the table, I stirred mine, took one sip, and looked at Robin in horror. Not good. This is definitely not my drink. I immediately made her try it because I was sure there was something wrong. Perhaps they accidently gave me Isopropyl and Sprite? But Robin only sipped it and laughed - the drink was just fine. It's me that has something wrong. Like deranged taste buds. When the taste test results in swapping drinks after one sip...

...you know you haven't found your drink yet. I'll keep looking.

Raspberry Vodka & Sprite
Sampled: 8-22-08
Rated: 1/10
Served in a glass with ice and a stirrer. As already described, it tasted like Isopropyl (because I know what that tastes like) and a splash of Sprite. I won't be giving this one a second chance.

I've tried the Long Island Iced Tea and the Amaretto Sour. Both are very good, though the Long Island will knock you on your ass. I think most places cut you off at two. But I used to love them back in the day. I haven't had one in years!

We've made sangrias at home after watching Bobbly Flay make a kick ass sangria on Food Network. Of course we used bottled sangria and added our own fruit. I'm sure it paled in comparison to Bobby's.

It kinda sounds like you aren't much for fru-fru drinks, and maybe you aren't a hard alcohol kinda girl. I see nothing wrong with sticking with beer.

Vodka and sprite doesn't have much of a taste to it, the alcohol really stands out. If you like cranberry juice - a vodka cranberry (with or without sprite) may be more to your liking. Most "rail" alcohols are going to be pretty strong-tasting. Top shelf alcohols tend to have less bite, but are more expensive. I'd suggest tasting other people's drinks rather than paying for one sip. I really like the cider beers (along with lots of other stuff), but cider isn't as heavy as regular beer and it's not as alcohol-tasting as hard liquor. good luck.

My current faves are Apple Martinis and Stoli flavored Vodka and tonic. Especially strawberry or blueberry. Mmmm.

It's funny that you are writing about the drink list. I thought about this when we were out for dinner. I contemplated trying a mojito, but alcohol eventually only slows me down and heaven knows I'm sluggish enough right now. I don't need help. Next time. Next time.

I've decided I'm anti-mohito. I went to the Drugtown or whatever, where they let you make your own 6-pack w/ various malt liquors and whatnot. I chose many new things, including a mohito and a pomegranate mohito. Somehow I missed the memo about mohitos being minty. Le gross.

I still love me a blue lagoon. And lately, a strawberry flavored vodka with lemonade. Mmmm.

I nearly lost it: (as in spit out my water on my desk)

"Perhaps they accidently gave me Isopropyl and Sprite?"

--best line!

Based on what you've said, I'm thinking you're going to like the LI Ice Tea. It's heavy duty but it doesn't taste that way at all. Be.Careful.

Also, Michelob ultra with green olives? WTF? What are you kids doing in the bars today?!

I'm trying to find a good drink too! I usually end up with Vodka Tonics but I'm bored with it.

I tried my hand at Scotch but realized I'm not that hardcore.

When Amanda was in town she got everyone drinking blue motorcycles. Very tasty. This one is going to sound ghetto but vanilla vodka with Root beer. It tastes like a root beer float.

I stick with beer, although I'd be willing to try some on your list minus olives. Yucky!!!

Living in Beervana, I don't drink cocktails very much, but have you ever tried a cosmopolitan? I was into those for a while.

Also, really good is a vodka martini with (believe it or not) an olive stuffed with bleu cheese. Or a dirty martini.

I'm not that into alcoholic drinks. My drink is chocolate milk. ;) BUT when I want to imbibe at a bar I have gingerale and vanilla vodka. I recommend it. If there's hard cider around, I'll do that. At a fancier place, I like lemonade and Maker's Mark. Or a soju lemon drop.

Hi, I read your site from time to time and happened across this posting- I just found MY new drink, and I think you should try it(even though you have no idea who I am!)
Vodka (any brand preferably unflavored)a splash of Chambord and Seltzer or sprite.

relatively Low-cal, not too sweet, and non-isopropyl-ish (at least I think)

Good luck!
