A music buff I am not
Monday, April 2, 2007 at 06:27AM
This is the second meme I was tagged for when I was struggling to write. I'm still struggling to write anything well, so today I'm using this as filler. Hopefully I'll be back on track soon.
Name 10 songs, and tell the story of each.
1. Most frequently played in iTunes (or the equivalent).
I don't use iTunes or anything equivalent. I'm so behind the times when it comes to music. However, Brad has a "Shannon" playlist in his iTunes which I occassionally tap into. From there, I'd say the most frequently played is something by Natalie Merchant. That's as close as I can get.
2. Set to skip in iTunes.
When listening to Brad's iPod with him, I usually skip over any of his hip hop crap. Can't think of anything specific. Does that count?
3. A lyric you love.
From Jackson Browne's "The Pretender": "I'm gonna find myself a girl who can show me what laughter means." I've always wanted somebody to tell me that lyric reminds them of me.
4. Makes you dance.
I left this one blank till the very end and I still can't think of anything. It's not that music doesn't make me dance, I just can't pull from my brain the name of a specific song. Why is this so hard?
5. Different from the rest of your musical taste.
"Juicy" by Notorious B.I.G. My sister listened to rap all through high school, so I indirectly did too, though I hated most of it. Except this song, I still love to hear it.
6. You know all the words.
I can only pick one? There's probably only about 10 or 15 songs I know all the words to, but I love them all equally. I guess I'll choose Sarah MacLachlan's "Angel" because it reminds me of my mom. I turn it up every time and sing every word for my mommy who is an angel herself, but also deserves an angel in her life more than anyone I know.
7. Have liked for the longest amount of time.
My very first CD was Aerosmith's "Get a Grip," and I immediately fell in love with "Crazy," both the song and the video. I still love that song and wish I still had the CD.
8. Most recent addition.
I've never bought a CD in my life (they've all been gifts or burned for me), and I don't download music, so really I have no recent additions. I think the last disc I got, given to me by Brad, was Michael Buble. I don't know, pick any of his songs. I'm terrible at this.
9. Reminds you of a relationship.
"How Do I Live" by LeAnn Rimes was the song of 1997. It was the theme song of Homecoming that year, and I was promised a dance (to this song of course) with this one guy who claimed to be in love with me. He was someone with whom I was forever on the cusp of a relationship, but we never quite made it. When this song played, I sought him out but failed to find him. I found out later, when we danced to another song, that he had danced with some other girl that he was pursuing at the time. They're married now, so I guess I can forgive him.
10. Played at a memorable concert.
I've only been to a few concerts, but one of my favorite moments was when the Foo Fighters opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in about 2000 (Robin?). "Learn to Fly" was huge then, and that one live song outshined all of RHCP's performance that night (though I still love RHCP and would love to see them again).
I don't think I did this meme justice because while music is a very important background to my life, I don't live, eat and breathe it. Proof: lately I've been listening to morning talk radio, NPR and a Financial Peace CD. And very little else.
