We were hit in the car wash!
Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 01:37PM
Cars get filthy in the winter, all that salt and dirty snow. So Brad wanted to wash his Jeep while we were out today. His usual car wash had a line that we estimated would have taken an hour to get through, so we decided to try the new car wash down the road. Normally he avoids Oasis Car Washes because they just seem obnoxious, but this one was new, so why not.
First of all, every single employee at the Oasis Car Wash needs to just chill the fuck out. They were all in some giant hurry, trying to rush us into the car wash while we waited, window down, for Brad's card to be processed. Once inside they scrubbed us with dirty water, hurriedly lined us up on the track, and off we went. Mid-wash, while we were discussing how violent the brushes seemed, suddenly something felt wrong. Like we had run something over or possibly disconnected from the track. Then we stopped completely. The windows and windshield were covered in soapy blue brushes and sponges, so we couldn't see anything in front of or beside us. Then we felt a jolt, glanced out the back window and realized the car behind us had HIT US! In the car wash! We got hit by another car in the car wash.
Apparently we had gotten off the track somehow, and after the other car hit us, it pushed through the rest of the brushes, the rinse and all the way through the driers. Once we were pushed out, Brad hopped out to talk to the other driver. The Jeep was fine, but her brand new Equinox had scratches all over the shiny new bumper.
So we pulled around to the entrance, and Brad and the other driver went to talk to the staff. After a few minutes, the manager came over to check out the situation. From my place in the passenger seat, I heard this exchange:
Asshole Manager: [To Brad] Well you must have put it park. [In the middle of the car wash? Um no, we're not morons.]
Brad: No I didn't. I didn't touch anything, we just stopped.
AM: Well it's not our fault. See ya later.
And he walked away! Brad said he was going to call the cops, and the Asshole Manager's response was, "Go ahead and call 'em." So he did, and within a few minutes a police officer showed up.
He talked to Brad and the other driver, then found the manager. The officer came back with the report from the manager that it must have been Brad's fault. Either he hit the brakes or put it in park, that's the only explanation for our derailment. Brad and I and the other driver all agreed that neither of those things happened. In the middle of our conversation with the officer, Asshole Manager ran away like a puppy in his oversized pickup truck. Yeah real nice, thanks.
In the end, Brad exchanged information with the other driver, who was going down to the courthouse to file a small claim against the Oasis Car Wash in Jackson, MI. Never go there! If you live in Jackson, Michigan (or anywhere else really), do not patronize an Oasis Car Wash. Not only will you encounter the rudest business manager and the least helpful staff around, but you also run the risk of getting HIT by another car in the middle of the car wash. Then getting blamed for it.
Seriously stay away from Oasis Car Wash.

who knew I'd be able to pass this information along to someone...
My first job was working as a cashier in a carwash. Cars jump off the track if they aren't positioned on the track exactly right, not just because of putting it in park or the brakes being used!. So if the guys rushed you and didn't pay attention to where your tires were, it's totally their fault! As for the manager...he was totally in the wrong by blowing you off. Good for you for pursuing it. Also, get the owners name if possible and write him a letter!
Wow, Shan. That's horrible!!!
My mom's best friend took her full-sized van through a car wash, with all 4 kids inside, and the brushes and such went wild and actually totalled her vehicle with everyone still inside! I'm scared of 'em now, and only go in the ones where you get out and only the car goes through.
Anyway, I hope you keep persuing all this. What a bunch of crap!!!
That is such a bummer! And I can't believe the manager! What a moron!
how horrible ~ this is why I'm glad we never go through the car wash but always go into the car washes where you wash your own in the stall with the really fun handheld soaper thingy ... okay, really we do this cause we're cheap but i somehow feel justified now ...
good for you guys for not letting the car wash freaks intimidate you!!
My mom has been the equinox lady. The 80+ year old lady in front of her had gotten scared and hit her brakes in the octopus arm area. My mom saw and hit her brakes and started honking, but the car wash employees just kept waving for her to go through and looking at her like she was an idiot. So she hit the lady in front of her eventually. I think the lesson we all learned is that car wash things are bad. Just drive around with a a dirty car like I do.
Ours tore the mirror off my car. I noticed as soon I was pulling out onto the street and went back and they totally denied it.
So I went back at 10:30 a.m. on a sunny Saturday and proceeded to absolutely lose my shit at top volume, beginning with "WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS ARE YOU TRYING TO RUN HERE?" I made the manager cry and promise to quit - but I never got my mirror fixed.
They went out of business, though.
