It just makes me feel good

I left the below comment at Stuntmother when she wrote about what blogging means to her. But I thought it was appropriate for my own space too. For me, keeping a blog is a little narcissistic. I do it because I like to put words together, I like to craft language. I may not be that great at it, but I find it therapeutic most of the time. Yes, I like to know people read this and yes I LOVE to get comments (hey you! leave a comment!). But I'd probably keep writing here even if none of that happened.

I used to keep a personal journal, for many years actually, but this is much more fun right now. I don't normally blog about blogging, but it seems to be a trend during this month of NaBlo. Anyway, here's the comment:

When I was a child I wrote all kinds of short stories too. I had a strange fixation with twins back then, so they often starred in my stories. But when I look back, I still marvel at my stories, my ability and eagerness to write back then.

So I regard blogging the same way as you. I'll never make a living as a writer, and that's fine. I'll probably never be published in anything except those old college newspapers and magazines. But as a blogger, I can write every day. And it forces me to look at my life, analyze what's interesting or sad or happy. What's happening, what it means and how I feel about it. I may not be a good one, but darn it, I'm a writer!

I'm right there with you, regarding the old college newspapers and magazines. However, I still hold on to the dream that maybe I will make a living as a writer. I'm not giving up on it yet. Which is why I keep doing it every single day.

I don't like to write. I'd rather come here and read your interesting thoughts. I'd much rather get into someone else's head than put mine down in words. I'm an engineer. I like to figure things (people, piston engines) out, not write.

Though... my research paper is currently 120 pages (single spaced) and it's not done yet. So maybe I'm just sick of writing.

I like your reasons for blogging : ) I find my blog like the journals I used to keep, full of scraps and bits of me, photos and phrases and all those thoughts and strings of abstract poetry / a diary of me first and foremost and a place for my friends to keep track of my going ons especially since some of us are scattered across the earth and yes mostly because I like writing and I like reading others and I like knowing that I am connecting to new people ...

: )
