RealSleep = No Sleep

About a month ago, a friend told me about something she heard on the radio. She knows I’m a terrible sleeper and how much I struggle with it, so she was quick to tell me about this sleep CD – RealSleep. I checked it out and quickly bought it. I’m willing to try just about anything to get more rest!

It took awhile to actually try it out because I don’t have a portable CD player. I uploaded all the tracks to iTunes, and eventually the Giraffe bought me a little speaker that hooks up to your iPod. So Sunday night I gave it a try.

Extreme FAIL!

Not only did it not put me to sleep, it kept the Giraffe, who sleeps through just about anything, awake. It’s supposed to have these nearly inaudible sounds mixed in with the music that affect your subconcious and help you sleep. That may be true, but we found the actual music so distracting that we didn’t sleep. In fact, the Giraffe said he almost found it stimulating rather than relaxing.

I don’t doubt that this works for some people, but it was a miserable failure for me. On to the next thing! If anyone is interested in giving it a try, I’m happy to send it your way.

About Shannon

I'm Doahleigh. Pronounced doe-uh-lee. I'm 29, I'm married to the Giraffe, and I'm a recent cat lover. Strike that. I love one cat, that's it. I don't have kids, and I still have no idea what I'm doing with my life. I'm often pretty witty and sarcastic though. So there's that.

    For what it’s worth. Is there any chance that it was the awareness that was keeping you awake? The fact that this CD was supposed to help you sleep maybe made you hyper-aware of yourself, and whether or not you felt sleepy. I know that the night before a really long day of work or a trip, when I *really* need to get some sleep, is when I sleep the worst.
    Or maybe the CD just really sucked and I’m talking out my ass. Both are entirely possible.

    I had to laugh at the safety instructions on Amazon:

    “Do not use in a moving vehicle.”

    Doh!
