man.that one is a total dream for me, and probably for william too. just running away from all the stuff built up, and seet he world. learn. have experiences beyond the fluorescent lights. i never studied abroad in college--my biggest regret. once the debt is paid off and before i theoretically have children, i 'd love to. always a million reasons not to, but the reason TO DO is so damn compelling.

I think travelling and wanting to be on the move is a natural thing. We were all nomads to start, never staying in one place.

It's weird ... I think I have actually sown my oats! I lived in Spain for a year after college, and I traveled around and lived in a tiled house with random Spanish roommates ... and had a romantic jaunt in the South of France/North of Spain ... and now I'm very settled in my staid New England life.

Which is not to say I wouldn't welcome a sabbatical in a villa somewhere under a Tuscan/Mexican/Provencal sun somewhere. But the hectic travels? I'm shocked to say I think I'm over them. (Other than a cross-country road trip, which I still want to do someday.)

Sooo, if I don't have any babies by then, you can probably count me in. Seriously.

You know - I had a friend that did this after she graduated college and she hasn't been back to the U.S. since. And that was about 8 years ago.

I live vicariously through her because I know she hasn't lived a life of regret. For me, I would love to do this but feel completely weighed down with obligation (although according to my friend, my "obligations are all in my head").

I'd love to go with you but I definitely don't have the balls... but I'd love to read all about it!

A few years ago two people did it and wrote about it for the L.A. Times. (Pre 2005, can't find it online.) One of the dude's friends did it too with his gf. They went places where there were horse races because he could freelance stories about it. I'd go but not sure the dude would love that.

I have always wanted to do that too. It has always seemed too overwhelming for my tiny mind. How much money would I have to save up, could I save enough, how would I get my bills paid off in time to go so I wouldn't be abondoning them, where would I go, what would I do. If I had someone to help me figure that all out or to talk it out with, I would totally be in. It would be so good for me to get away and leave everything behind for a while. Put some perspective in my life.
