Happy day recap
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget to show off my present from Brad. I had to get the pictures off my camera first, and sometimes I put that off for weeks! So here it is:
Need a closer look?
It’s a picture of us! Made out of lego pieces! See:
Isn’t that so frickin’ cool? He came up with the idea all on his own, did some fancy computer stuff, ordered all the pieces, then put each one meticulously in place. It might be a little hard to tell in the pictures, but when you hang it on a wall and step back, it really looks like us! Blur your eyes a little on the top one. Does it look like this:
I know, you’re amazed. I am too.
The rest of my birthday was fun too. After presents and lunch we went to a couple used book stores where Brad bought me some new reading material. Then we stopped at the new Schuler Books downtown where we browsed and drank a chai latte. Unfortunately the next couple hours were spent walking around a crowded grocery store and cleaning up the apartment in preparation for company that night. But after that unfun part, we met a bunch of people for dinner where I got a Chi flat iron from my siblings, mom and Brad. I also had an amazing dish–bowtie pasta with grilled chicken, brocolli and a gorgonzola cream sauce–and delicious tiramisu.
After dinner we all went back to our place where we intended to play games, but were instead entertained by ridiculous conversations about gay stereotypes and whether or not San Diego is on the coast. It was a really great birthday, and it’s times like those that I’m so glad I moved back to GR.
P.S. Don’t my presents ROCK!

Dood, that is completely awesome! How creative and unique and thoughtful. Major points for Brad. Major.
And a CHI! I wish people in my family understood how awesome fancy hair/makeup items are! Instead, everyone would mutter “Well, you can get a perfectly fine Vidal Sassoon one at Walgreens” and “Wet n’ Wild makes a blue eyeliner for 1/20th the price of MACs!” …….. Uggh. Your family rocks!

I wouldn’t say I came up with the idea all myself. Lego actually had a service where you could upload a phot and they would send you the pieces to make it. I wanted to do that at first, but they no longer offer that.
So I set out to see how I could do it myself. I wanted to make a color one (like so) but that took too many legos and after a few months of trying to figure out the correct color pallette, I gave up.
There is a program called Bricksaic that is pretty useful, but i found my Photoshop’d version to be a little better than what that generated.
So then I had to order some parts on Lego.com, and most others on ebay because Lego doesn’t offer the 3 shades of grey I needed, or the white! But after a year of hunting and collecting and legoing it finally came together!

That is so freaking awesome! So freaking awesome! That’s all I can say!
Brad, seriously, you’re being way too modest. I’ve never had a guy plan out a present for a YEAR. (I think, like, less than a day is usually the time span. Seriously.) A stinking year man! That takes thought, dedication and someone with a great heart. That’s awesome!
You two are awesome!

First of all…I cannot believe this is the first I’m hearing of this! As your best friend (yes, I’m using that label because you deserve it!) I think I should have been aware of what a frickin awesome boyfriend you have way before now!
And Brad…frickin wow…you rock! Can we take a pic together and you make a lego picture? I mean…I need one of those!
How long did it take you to put it together? And did you have to hide it from Shan?

Jess: It’s actually a year LATE because I wanted to do this for her for last Christmas, but couldn’t get it all together by then. Stupid Lego company! So I had the rest of the year to search around and finally find all the stuff I needed.
Robin: I sat down and put it all together in three or four 1-2 sessions. Usually when Shan was doing Yoga with you.
What took the longest was making sure each piece said “LEGO” facing the right way. There’s 1,936 pieces on there! And yes I had to hide it from her. Luckily I have enough crap stuffed in places that it just looked like more crap!
Thanks everybody for the nice comments!

That lego picture is so amazing! What a creative idea and it sounds like a lot of work went into it.

That has to be A the coolest present I’ve ever seen, and B the coolest thing I’ve ever seen anyone do, that didn’t get paid big bucks to do it! WOW! How much could I pay him to do that for Kev and I?

That’s for the info, Brad. (I’m guessing you knew I emailed Shannon for more info.) It sounds too complicated for me. Man, you’re a trooper!
