Christmas moments

I drew my gma’s name for Christmas and had no idea what to get her. So I called up gramps, and his brilliant idea was to just slap my name on a gift that he was going to give her. Done!

Christmas day I search under the tree at G&G’s and see nothing that says “To Grandma, From Your Loving Granddaughter Shannon” so I pull gramps aside and inquire about the gift he was supposed to arrange. He had completely forgotten. We shuffle back to the spare bedroom and frantically search. It’s an Elvis gospel CD we’re looking for he says. No go.

He takes me back into the living room and says to grandma “Shannon wants to see that Elvis cd we bought.” She already knows about it!! So she digs it out of some crevice in the 100 year old entertainment center and raves about how great it is. Apparently she’s already listened to it. Grandpa guides me back to the spare bedroom, CD in hand, and instructs me to wrap it and stealthily put it under the tree. I do just that.

See, my grandma is a little bit of a ditz. Love her always, but she doesn’t always get it ya know? So I know the opening of the Elvis CD is going to be extremely awkward seeing as she’s already listened to it and knows nothing about the plan gpa and I devised, and surely won’t understand when we explain it to her. I decide to prepare the rest of the fam, so they can all help smooth over the awkwardness.

The time comes for gram to open the gift. Rip, tear, unwrap. Blank stare. I glance around the room for some help. Nervous smiles.

Gma: “Oh this is wonderful! I’m not even an Elvis fan, but his gospel music is wonderful”

I’m not sure if she forgot that she previously owned the CD or if she miraculously understood what was happening. I’m thinking the former.

Gpa wouldn’t even let me pay him back for the gift I “gave” gma. So basically I just wrapped up something she already owned and pretended like it was something new I was giving her. I think she fell for it.
